AM-4668是一种有效的选择性GPR40激动剂。AM-4668比AMG 837更有效，具有出色的跨物种药代动力学特性，并在OGTT研究中降低了人类GPR40敲入小鼠的血浆葡萄糖水平。g蛋白偶联受体40 (GPR40，或FFA1)在胰腺β细胞中高度表达，仅在血糖水平升高时才对内源性脂肪酸产生反应，导致胰岛素分泌扩增。因此，与经典的胰岛素分泌剂相比，GPR40激动剂可以降低血糖水平，降低低血糖的风险。
