6-Aminophenanthridine是一种抗朊病毒剂。单独使用时，在酵母和哺乳动物筛选试验中，它可以抑制朊病毒的形成，在更大程度上，当与α2-肾上腺素能受体激动剂胍那苯联合使用时。6-Aminophenanthridine通过直接与蛋白质底物竞争活性位点来抑制蛋白质折叠活性，在不影响蛋白质折叠速率的情况下降低了蛋白质折叠的产率。在眼咽肌营养不良(OPMD)的果蝇模型中，当幼虫在含有300至400 μ M剂量的培养基中饲养时，以及在成虫饮食中给予1-3 mM剂量的培养基时，它可以防止进行性翅膀位置缺陷。在OPMD果蝇模型中，6-Aminophenanthridine还能减少肌肉变性，减少胸肌核包涵体的数量。
